Can Americans buy property in Portugal?
Yes. Portugal does not generally restrict property ownership based on nationality, and US buyers can purchase property in Portugal. The process involves obtaining a Portuguese tax number (NIF) and completing the appropriate legal and tax formalities. We coordinate with qualified professionals who can assist with each stage of the purchase.
Do I need to live in Portugal to own property?
No. Many of our clients own property in Portugal while remaining resident in the United States. Residency and immigration matters are handled by qualified specialists; our role is focused on the property and its ongoing management.
Can you help me find a property that isn't publicly listed?
Yes. We work on an enquiry-led basis rather than simply presenting a public portfolio. Based on what you're looking for, we conduct a private search through our local network, including opportunities that may not be publicly advertised.
Can you help coordinate lawyers and other professionals?
Yes. We work alongside independent Portuguese lawyers, tax advisers, surveyors, architects, engineers and other specialists when required. We do not provide legal, tax or financial advice ourselves. Our role is to coordinate the process and make sure the right professionals are involved.
Can you help if I am relocating with my family?
Yes. We support the property side of a family move and help coordinate the practical transition — including neighbourhoods, schools, utilities and local service providers. Where immigration or legal advice is required, we coordinate with qualified professionals.
Can you manage my property after I purchase it?
Yes. Our relationship can continue well beyond the purchase. We provide ongoing property oversight, maintenance coordination, inspections, service-provider management and reporting.
Can you manage a property while I remain based in the United States?
Yes. This is an important part of what we do. You have a single local point of contact in Portugal who can coordinate what needs to happen on the ground and keep you informed remotely.
Do you work with investment properties?
Yes. We work with clients considering long-term rental, short-term rental and mixed personal-use properties. We can assess factors such as location, property characteristics, rental potential and operating considerations before you commit, without making promises about investment returns.
Which areas of Portugal do you cover?
We work across Portugal, including Lisbon, Cascais and Estoril, Comporta, the Algarve, Porto and Central Portugal, including the Silver Coast where we are based.
Is there anyone in the United States I can meet with?
Yes. Members of our team regularly travel to the United States to meet clients. Let us know where you are based and we can discuss arrangements for an in-person meeting.
